Bend flow with special hydraulic characteristics plays an important role in water intake and sediment control.Lateral intakes in open channel are often used for diverting water from river. Based on the previous study, this paper studies the hydraulic characteristics of intake flow. Both laboratory experiments and numerical simulations are conducted.Turn on water intake under different traffic flow conditions segregation was tested with advanced three-dimensional velocity instrument, and compared with no bypass. The bend flow characteristics were studied and the process of transverse circulation was analyzed; the curve flow hydraulic characteristics under different diffluence conditions were introduced.Thorough comparisons of the calculated results and measured values were performed. The good agreement indicated the adoptability and credibility of the numerical approach used. The 2-D plane flows in different bifurcated channels had been simulated. The results were used to analyze the influences of the diversion angle to the 2-D plane structure of bifurcated flow.Validated by the measured data, the three dimensional numerical model was used to simulate and analyze the 3-D hydrodynamic structure of the water intake in different boundary conditions.Based on practical engineering, the hydraulic characteristics of the water intake were studied by experimental, numerical simulation and theoretical methods in this paper. |
