Structures in regions of high seismic risk will not respond elastically to the maximum earthquake expected at the site during their usable life. Present seismic design recommendations intend that buildings respond elastically only to small magnitude earthquakes, but should be expected to experience different degrees of damage during moderate and strong ground motions. Elastic seismic analysis has been well developed, and it can reliably simulate the elastic response of any complicated structure if the model is reasonably simplified. Currently the hot topic in earthquake engineering research is elasto-plastic seismic response analysis of 3-d structures, a large number of scientists and engineers have studied, so all sorts of 3-d elasto-plastic analysis software is produced in the market. But because the 3-d elasto-plastic seismic response analysis itself is relatively complex, plus all sorts of 3-d elasto-plastic analysis software calculation model theory is various, therefore beginners tend to overwhelming.This paper systematically explains elastic-plastic analysis of three-dimensional frame structure theory knowledge, taking based on component model -based on section model - based on fiber model as the main line of this paper, stiffness method and flexibility method, concentration of plastic hinge model and distribution plastic model as the branch of this paper, common finite element software SAP2000,PERFORM-3D,OpenSees,Canny,Abaqus as examples.Because of numerical calculation is essentially an approximate calculation, and thus caused some numerical issues affect the accuracy of computation. This article, using finite element software OpenSees, researches the integral point of unit and fiber divided in section , in order to reducing the calculating work but does not affect the accuracy of the calculation results. Concrete structure and steel structure are given respectively reasonable suggestions in integral point of unit and fiber divided of section, so as to guide practical engineering application.The dynamic response of a 12 floors frame structure, using based on fiber model in finite element software SAP2000,PERFORM-3D,OpenSees,Canny, is computed and compared to the shaking table test of same model structure. The good agreement between them indicates that the based on fiber model is reasonable and efficient in elasto-plastic seismic response analysis of 3-d frame structures.
