The need for special purpose vehicles (SPV) increases with the rapid development of our modern economic construction in recent years. Moreover, the amount and the types of special purpose vehicles also increase day and day. Today, the development trend of SPV tends to large-tonnage, energy conservation, environmental protection and light weight with the rapid changing of highway construction. The self-unloading semi-trailers (SUST) which have many types make remarkable social and economic benefit for enterprise production and transportation. Owing to the strong market demand for SUST, the competition among enterprises which manufacture SUST increases with the mushroom development of SUST. In order to improve efficiency of SUST and increase functions of SUST, a new heavy-duty SUST was designed according to the fact of projects. The research contents of the new heavy-duty SUST are as follows:1) The overall structure design, the selection of materials, using and maintain of a new type SUST was completed according to the structure of the new SUST.2) The strength and stiffness of the new SUST's frame under different conditions were analyzed using finite element analysis software.3) The roof motor control mechanism and the rolls of components were designed to ensure green transport.4) The hydraulic pressure system of the new SUST was designed to dump cargo body and to open roof. The main hydraulic components were selected by analyzing and calculating.5) The air brake system of new heavy-duty SUST with ABS additional system were designed to improve the SUST's braking performance.With the merits of both self- unloading and semi-trailers, a new SUST was designed to be used in many areas such as food transport, mining, energy and ore transport, construction, power plants, steel mills, and highway construction. In addition, the new SUST, whose expected target of load is 30 tons, have the advantages of self-unloading, safety, stabilization, high-efficiency and environmental protection.
