Gear transmission is the most widely used in the transmission mechanism in mechanical drive system. It has features of power range, high transmission efficiency and transmission ratio accurate, long service life, work safety and reliability, etc. With the rapid development of modern science and technology and industrial production, gear transmission develops gradually to high-speed, overlap, low noise and high reliability. All these put forward higher request to carrying capacity of the gear transmission device, so modern gear design put forward higher request of the static and dynamic property of the gear transmission system. By using traditional analysis method, the distribution conditions of gear stress in gear transmission can not be got while by using the finite element analysis method, the working process of gear transmission under different conditions can be simulated and analyzed intuitively and vividly, also the can provide strong support to the design of gears.Based on CAD/CAE software, the following aspects are done for the engine front-end gear transmission system:1. The build of 3d model for gearBy the third party plugins GearTrax2008 based on SolidWorks2008, the 3d model of gear is established. In SolidWorks2008, the method of creating standard gear by drawing involute ways is very complex while in GearTrax2008 we only need to input some specified parameters, it will automatically generate standard involute gear, and the gears can be assembled without interference in SolidWorks.2. The calculation of bending and contact stress by FEMImport the three dimensional finite element model of involute gear to the software of ABAQUS, and then make a simplification to the model and boundary conditions. Coupled the shaft holes of gear to the center point and load a certain RPM in active gear while in driven gear load a resistance torque. With these the changing of contact and bending stress in rotation of gear meshing process can be simulated, and then we can make a analysis and comparison between the contact and bending stress got by GB and FEM.3. The analysis of the fatigue life of engine gearBy using the result of finite element analysis, The fatigue life of gear can be analyzed and the result of gear life can be got. Through these the failure region can be found and the relevant factor which impacts the fatigue life are analyzed.Through the work of above three aspects, a set of effective method for gear design and analysis is provided, compared with the traditional calculation and experimental method, this method can effectively shorten the development cycle and reduce the cost of tests.
