With the increase in load, system expansion, high reliability requirements of electricity customers, power transformer as the main equipment in power system is also put forward higher requirements, such as voltage increase, capacity enlarge, loss reduction, noise suppression, short-circuit withstand ability, many aspects are faced with more and more challenges. In this paper, take one SS10-240000kVA/220kV power transformer design process as the main line, focus on the various main design steps, discussed the corresponding measures and the items which need to pay attention, including the main insulation design, magnetic flux leakage design, impedance design, short-circuit design, designed temperature rise, core design, coil design, lead design, gradient distribution of the impact of design, noise suppression, and so on. Focus on each challenge of power system, from the design point of view, discussed the solve/improve solution, in order to achieve an overall high quality level of the power transformers.
