There are some kinds of small and medium induction motors which are the main power equipment. The high efficiency motors appeared since the 70s of last century as well as the more efficient motors appeared which is called"super-premium efficiency electric motors"after 90s of the last century as the energy and environmental issues become increasingly important. In general, the loss of the high-efficiency electric motor can be dropped by an average 20% compared with ordinary motor while the loss of the super-premium efficiency electric mo-tors can be dropped by an average loss of more than 30%.It is more suitable for the super-premium efficiency electric motors to be worked in the condition of long-term continuous operation and high rate of load because of the better ener-gy-saving effect. It comes to be an inevitable trend of the development for the high efficiency motors and super-premium efficiency electric motors because of the importance of the energy conservation.In this paper, we introduced the ant colony algorithm for the generation, the basic principles, the improved self-adaptive ant colony algorithm and the applica-tion characteristics of ant colony algorithm. For the structural characteristics and technical requirements of the three-phase medium induction motors with high voltage, we researched and established mathematical model of the medium size high voltage three-phase induction motor for optimal design of electromagnetic as making the electrical efficiency to be the objective function, also the efficiency, power factor, starting torque multiplier, maximum torque multiplier, starting cur-rent and thermal load to be the multiple constraints, and then prepared a calcula-tion program using the FORTRAN 90. Last, we computed all specifications motors of the YKK500, YKK560and YKK630 using the program, and take the YKK500-2 series motor as an example, we made a comparison of the optimized design formula with the original formula of the same series motor, and it shows that the improved ant colony algorithm is effective.
