Traffic and people'daily lives become close increasingly. With the popularity of car, traffic congestion has become a problem of each large or medium city. To solve the problem in general is newly built transportation facilities or the introduction of advanced traffic control system to excavate the potential of existing transport facilities. Urban artery is an important part of transport network, to ensure the smooth flow and efficient operation of it has very important significance. For the purpose, the traffic signal coordination control method of urban artery is studied.First, the history, current situation and future trends of traffic signal control study are introduced in and abroad in the paper. Then the basic theory of traffic signal control, which includes the basic theory of traffic flow, basic concepts and evaluation indexes of traffic signal control, types of traffic signal control etc, are analyzed and discussed.Second, the principle and basic concepts of immune algorithm, basic principles of clonal selection algorithm and the algorithm processes are elaborated. On this basis, adaptive niche clonal selection algorithm (ANCSA) is proposed. The new algorithm, which uses adaptive niche technology, high-frequency mutation operator and the niche immunodominance selection, is much stronger in global and local search capabilities, and is relatively short in search time. The simulation study results show the proposed algorithm can find the global optimum solution and more local optimum solution in a shorter time compared with the CLONALG algorithm.Finally, traffic signal coordination control of the urban roads is mainly studied. The delay model of urban arterial with signal coordination control is established under both normal traffic and over-saturated traffic condition. To minimize the delay of urban artery system of three intersections under normal traffic, the optimized offset is presented using the improved clonal selection algorithm. Simulation results show that the delay of artery significantly reduced compared with the fixed offset control, which proved the availability of presented model and also proved the adaptation of the proposed algorithm.
