In recent years,with the improvement of the power of WTGS (wind turbine generator system), it becomes an efficient method to lower the cost by reducing the size and weight of WTGS. Meanwhile, it makes the installment and maintenance convenient. As a major component of WTGS, Yaw drive should be simply structured, light weighted, and easily assembled, by premise of insuring its strength. It is one of the most important problems of the WTGS. This paper presents an innovative design of kinematic precept, and did some research on optimal design of structural concept and system dynamics research to design new kinds of yaw drive.First, it made an innovative design of kinematic precept on request of working conditions of the existing yaw drive. The transmission solutions using involute small teeth difference was proposed in this paper, confirming each transmission ratio and the output mechanism.Second, an approach for the structural parameter design in gear, output structure, bearing and box is given is this paper. Basic parameter of gear is determined considering various profile interferences of involute small teeth difference. The structure of output mechanism and its geometry parameter are determined according to its dimension and output torque. Special arm bearing is designed based on its strength request and structural limits. Structure of box is confirmed by the assembly considerations. The author did strength analysis of major components of yaw drive, tooth contact analysis for Gears using finite element, and checked other components by usual methods to ensure that the design proposal works.System dynamics research on yaw drive is done, and the model is established. The box is analyzed by modal analysis to obtain the natural frequency and modal shape, which can avoid resonance, and at the same time meet the requirement of performance of yaw drive.The new kind of yaw drive is structural compact, light and efficiency, which can improve the development of design and research of domestic generating equipments.
