With the increase of nonlinear load and wide use of power electronic technology in the power system, the problems of harmonic and interharmonics have appeared in recent years. The problems of harmonics have gradually been solved, and the problems of interharmonics have also gradually got everybody's attention. Besides the vortex and hysteresis losses as harmonic, the interharmonic will also affect the transformer and measurement instrument, cause relaying protection disoperation and cause voltage fluctuation and flicker, which affecting the quality of power and the health of users. Therefore analysis of generating mechanism of the interharmonics, the characteristics, detecting algorithm and the device which can eliminate interharmonics has become more and more important in the field of electric power quality.After the analysis of generating mechanism of the interharmonic and the impact on power system, the paper focuses on the characteristics of the interharmonic, including the relationship of frequency and the source interharmonic, the relationship of voltage fluctuation and frequency and amplitude of interharmonic. And the paper comes to the conclusion that different source of interharmonic has different frequency characteristics. Based on this conclusion, the paper puts forward prony detection algorithm, and prove it feasible and accurate through the simulation. Finally, the paper puts forward the devices for elimination of interharmonics based on different sources of interharmonics and proves them feasible through MATLAB.The devices for elimination of interharmonic can improve the power quality of power system, remove the impact of interharmonic such as voltage fluctuation and flicker, disoperation of relay protection and the zero examination problem of measurement instrument, and ensure health and safety of people.
