Real-time digital simulation has been widely used in power system analysis, which is becoming a very important tool for feasibility studies and new equipment design, and the simulation error has great effects on the security and stability of power system operation. This problem has been an increasingly important issue which system analysts and experts concerned. Modeling and simulation of±800kV UHVDC transmission system were carried out on RTDS on the basis that the background and significance of error analysis of real-time digital simulation and the implementation of simulation technology have been in-depth studied in this paper. The simulation error was assessed from both the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis. Intuitive assessment results can be given by residual plots and scatter plots of qualitative analysis, and specific quantitative indexes can be calculated from the followed three aspects of the residual characteristic, shape characteristic and oscillation characteristic of quantitative analysis. In this paper, analysis method of real-time digital simulation error based on HVDC is proposed concerning residual characteristic and shape characteristic for the overall accuracy of simulation assessment. During the assessment of simulation error, both the offset between the two curves and the similar extent of variation trend of the curves are considered, and specific quantification indexes of simulation accuracy can be given accurately and objectively, which is helpful to model modification. Error assessment indexes which are based on the oscillation characteristic are used to analyze the fault transient process, which include the frequency similarity indexes, amplitude similarity indexes and damping similarity indexes. In addition, analysis based on measurement data of test occurring in a certain UHVDC transmission power system of China and the simulation results on RTDS is presented, which proves the validity of this method.
