Waterfront settlement, one of the most ancient human dwelling forms implies linkages and causes between human behavior and physical geography. Wherefore this article tries to start with the perspective of geography by means of visits and observations towards clustering areas, mapping out the graphic constitution mechanism of waterfront settlement. The results are taken as a reference for the transformation and renovation of urban waterfront settlement under the current context therefore deliver myself of an exploratory proposal.First of all, the author make reference to the conclusions on geographical science to clarify the tectonic stages of mounturban basin and the characteristics in different stream segment all of which would be taken as reference for observing the geography of visited settlements.Secondly, the author carries out observation from the perspective of "geography→settlement texture " according to the research site. Benefiting from rich literature resources, the author is able to gradually map out typical waterfront clustering graphs on assorted mounturban basin.Thirdly, in view of contradictions and doubts over the upper mentioned graph, the author sets foot in the field of social and human research to explore the dynamic causes of the constitution mechanism of clustering formation.Last but not least, the author takes the research achievements as reference and concerns about the transformation and renovation of current urban waterfront areas. The author strives to reach fair solution and therefore supply reasonable proposals.Through the above-mentioned conjecture, proving and verification, the author finally find the key to the many essential questions regarding the origins of waterfront clustering areas on the river basin, and their growing and decay. He also honestly wishes the thorough understanding could be adopted in the future development of residential environment.
