Line-start Permanent magnet synchronous motor(LSPMSM)has self-starting capability, and also has high efficiency,high power density and many other advantages,a good future for wider application. There is a trend that LSPMSM displaces Asynchronous motor in the small and medium power applications.It is useful forEnergy saving and Environmental Protection that design and research high-powered LSPMSM,and is a rewarding job.Different rotor magnetic circuit structure of LSPMSM were introduced in this paper,and steady state performances of LSPMSM were analyzed based on its steady state voltage equation and phase diagram.The design and calculation of stator and rotor structure,fractional slot winding,permanent magnet material selection and air gap length,were analyzed. Finally, the design parameters of a 2.2kw LSPMSM with fractional-slot were determined based on the same size induction motor data.Transient performance parameters of LSPMSM were calculated with Ansoft's RMxprt electromagnetic analysis software,and the results show that the design meet the requirements.LSPMSM is modelled with MagNet finite element simulation software,and its no-load and load starting performance were simulated. the results and analysis show that LSPMSM can replace the same capacity asynchronous motor with good start-capability,higher power factor and efficiency,attained the expected results.The relation of some properties of LSPMSM and rotor slot size,power frequency,stator slot depth, stator out-diameter,permanent magnet size and air gap length was researched,by use of parametric multivariate analysis method of Magnetic circuit analysis software RMxprt. The design parameters of LSPMSM is verified and reasonable. The study results provide some basis for optimizing the design parameters and performance of LSPMSM.
