With the development of higher education, Chinese universities build a large number of gymnasiums which have significant features of university in the process of new construction and expansion. Though the financial investment of these gymnasiums is low, it's fully functional, fully considered the service for teaching and student activities, in fact, they are large multi-purpose halls which have many functions of meeting, competitions, performances and so on.The gymnasium in a variety of modes needs a reasonable reverberation time, but no matter which model, because of a large multi-purpose hall, the electro-acoustic system is required, and a higher sound quality design is also needed. Based on good acoustic design in architecture, a good PA system with a good sound quality is needed.In this paper, taking a University Games Gymnasium PA system as an example, combining the characteristics of university gymnasium, using the combination of short-term line array speakers system and low-frequency speaker system in order to solve the problem of inadequate low frequency innovately, and EASE acoustic simulation is done, the gymnasium obtains a better sound quality finally; Combined the gymnasium construction with the layout of the stage characteristics in use, by the way of EASE acoustic simulation, selects short-term line array speakers and adjusts its hanging position, forecasts and optimizes the system's sound quality control scheme, then gets the most optimal PA scheme. Its key technologies (short-term line array speakers) and key parameters (the maximum SPL) are well studied in this paper.After the completion of the gymnasium, the maximum SPL is tested lively. The results show that the sound quality of the gymnasium's main electrical parameters is better than national standard. Meanwhile, it also shows that the approach taken in this paper is successful. The system is used for Eleventh National Games women's basketball game and is tested in dozens of important large-scale theatrical performances, the audiences feel that sound quality is good, the expert and the audiences give a good evaluation.
