With the rapid development of signal processing technology for underwater acoustic, the demands of underwater acoustic transducers are much higher than before, and which is the reason why low-frequency, high power, little size and broadband is an important direction of underwater acoustic transducers. A folded head mass broadband transducer is designed in this paper, which is carried out the purpose of little size and broadband performance by taking use of the theory of single-ended excitation and mending in structure.First of all, equivalent circuit method is used to analyze longitudinal-vibration transducers. Then, the idea of little size is brought out and finite-element software ANSYS is adopted to analysis and design. The performance of impedance and transmitting voltage response of transducer is analyzed, the structure effect on resonance frequencies and transmitting voltage response of transducer is studied, and the structure size of transducer is optimized. Finally, the prototype is manufactured according to the conclusions of optimization analysis, and the impedance characteristic and transmitting voltage response are measured in the pool. The actual measurement can be used within frequency range 5-16kHz with peak transmitting voltage response 148dB, fluctuation within the frequency range is 12dB.The result shows that the designed transducer is achieved with its mission and the experimental results were well coincide with calculated conclusions getting by software ANSYS.
