Vanadium is a kind of important rare metal and has been used in the areas of metallurgy, chemical industry, atomic energy and aviation etc owing to its high melting point, high hardness, good heat conductivity and chemical stability The vanadium source of our country is on the fourth top of the world and is mainly from vanadium titanium magnetite of Panzhihua. In present work, molten salt electrochemical method was used to prepare vanadium and the purity of vanadium is 99.05% which is better the purity of vanadium obtained by other methods before refining. The method used in present work can be enlarged.V2O3 was pressed at 10-25 MPa and sintered at 1000-1200℃for 4-8h. V2O3 pellet was used as the cathode for the electro-deoxidation in molten CaCl2-CaO and graphite was as the node. Under argon atmosphere pre-electrolysis and electrolysis were conducted 900℃. The time of pre-electrolysis and electrolysis are 10-12h and 5-12h. The purity of vanadium is 99.05%. The electro-deoxidation mechanism of V2O3 was discussed from view of kinetics and electrochemistry.
