Anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) was adopted to treat sulfate-containing wastewater. The regularity of sulfate transformation and SRB's cooperation of organic compounds biodegradation were investigated in reactor.The results showed that:(1) a great deal of sulfate was reduced in the first compartment, but the sulfide gained was oxidized step by step in following compartment; Decrease the HRT, increase the sulfate reduction rate; for low-strength wastewater, the rate of sulfate reduction reach 90 % while COD/SO42- excess 2.5, would decrease sharply while COD/[SO42-] ranges from 2.5 to 1.7.(2)When influent COD was 600mg/L,and HRT was 12h, decreased the COD/SO42-, increased the COD(SRB) in the first compartment, and when COD/SO42-<2, COD(SRB) accounted for the amount of COD removal of 40% in the first compartment.But COD(SRB) is weak in the second compartment, less than 20mg/L;and whether adjust COD/SO42- or not, SRB had no effect on following compartment.(3)When influent COD was 600mg/L, COD/SO42- was 1.2, and HRT was 12~6,COD(SRB) would be stable at a high level in the first compartment and at a low level in following compartment.When HRT was 3h, COD(SRB) dropped significantly in the first compartment ,and increased in following compartment.But changed HRT,not changed the COD(SRB) in every compartment in ABR.(4) the effects of SRB during methane production, hydrogen & Acetate production and fermentation phases. The results indicated that ASRB could not pull through MPB during methane production phase in short-term. FSRB could replace the function of HPA in the short run, yet had differences in using distinct fermentation products when hydrogen and acetate were produced. HSRB and HPA put synergetic effects on organism degradation. The hydrogen regulation of glycolytic which HSRB joined may lead to acetate portion grows in fermentation product.
