With the rapid development of science and technology and manufacturing industries in recent years, the CAD / CAM software platform has been established by many enterprises , which made the CAD technology go into a rapid development stage. CAD technique already has penetrated into every stage of industrial product design, which also leads tremendous changes for the traditional design method. It's significance for designers to develop a CAD system which has specific functions they need with existing resources.By demonstrating development of CAD technology and characters of VB software, such a conclusion has been drawn that it is feasible to develop valve tray with vb software.In this system valve tray has been taken as example to introduce the development process and implementation methods which Based on VB 6.0. With this system a series of work such as tray design, fluid check, load performance checking, automatic drawing according to the parameter which input by designer can easily be done by designers .This system has good scalability, this advantage greatly improved the specifications and efficiency and also can shorten the development cycle of new products.To sum all the features up ,this system has an important practical value.Besides the general checking according to the parameters, another important characteristic is that parts diagrams and assembly drawings can be drawn with this system, such as bow plate, rectangular plate, the channel plate. Additionally with this system row of holes on the tray together with their dimensions can automatically be given. These features combine the advantages of vb and AutoCAD together.This software take valve tray as example,and the design platform are AutoCAD2007 and VB 6.0.This system uses Textbox and MSFlexGrid to input data , so the required data can easily be input according to the tips given by system. During the checking and drawing if any improper operation or data errors exist there will be boxes to show the error, reflecting the characteristics of man-machine dialogue and parametric drawing. The main characteristics of this software are usability and versatility, better user interface, simple and convenient.With this system the design of the plate can be completed quickly, such as the tedious manual checking and drawing which must be done manually by designers before. In this way, human error and shorten design cycles can also be reduced. So it is useful exploration for tray design.
