Study On Cyanate Ester Resin System Suitable For The Homemade High Modulus Carbon Fiber

In order to break the Western developed countries'embargo on the imports of the high modulus carbon fiber to China, so the localization of high modulus carbon fiber has become imperative. But compare with the imported high modulus, the surface of the domestic one's polarity is smaller and the regularity is worse. For the sake of improving the composite domestic high-modulus carbon fiber, it is necessary to study the resin system which matches with it to provide the theoretical basis to the composite homemade high modulus carbon fiber for spacecraft.In this paper, SEM, AFM, XPS, XRD and other modern means of testing are used to comparatively analyse the domestic and imported high modulus carbon fiber's surface. Studies have shown that domestic high modulus carbon fiber's surface structure is more regular and smooth, the surface's roughnesss is smaller, the content of the surface polar bond is less and the degree of graphitization is higher than the imported. All of these characters affect the performance of interfacial adhesion.For the characteristics of the domestic high modulus carbon fiber's surface, this paper have synthesized the cyanate ester resin system which matches with the domestic high modulus carbon fiber and studied the impact of different ratios, different temperatures and different time on the modified cyanate ester resin casting's compression strength, bending strength, tensile strength and its heat resistance's performance. It shows that the best process parameters of the modified cyanate ester resin are: cyanate ester resin versus the modified cyanate ester resin equal to 8:2, reaction temperature is 150℃, reaction time is 9h. In this process parameter, the resin casting has higher compression, bending and tensile strength, which respectively are 197Mpa, 176Mpa and 61.88Mpa. Compare the modified resin system with the composite domestic high-modulus carbon fiber, we may find that the bending strength and the layer shear strength of the former have also been greatly improved, respectively 1025Mpa, 51Mpa.To further improve the overall performance of the composite materials, It synthesizes a macromolecular coupling agent based on the raw material styrene, methyl acrylate andγ-methyl (acryloyl) trimethoxysilane. It also studies the effect on the composite materials'mechanics and its heat resistance's performance by the content of the macromolecular coupling agent.It shows that when the macromolecular coupling agent in the dosage of 3%, the performance of the composite materials has been notable improved. Its flexural strength and interlaminar shear strength are 1090Mpa and 61Mpa, which has been raised 6.1% and 17.2% than before.
