In recent years, as the blossom of underground engineering, the survey and study work of crustal stress has been becoming more and more important. People are trying to deduce or prevent crustal stress's damaging to these underground engineering. Furthermore, how to make use of crustal stress and prompt it play a positive role to the stability of underground works has become a new major research direction.This paper sumerized and analysed some research achievement that predecessors performed on the survey and mechanism of crustal stress. Based on this, gravity stress equation of orthogonal anisotropic roch mass, the form of tectonic stress, the relationship between rotational angular velocity of the earth and the form of earth's plate boundary, how volcano affect its surrounding crustal stress, the effect that crustal stress on the stability of stope and the hydrological simulation of XinLi mining area under crustal stress were studied intensively as follows:(1)Assumed that the rock was orthotropic elastic solid, the paper derived the equation of rock mass self-weight stress base on the theory mechanics of elasticity, analysed further the mechanics of tectonic stress at the same time, and proved that plate margin's shape was resulting from earth spin's variable velocity. Ansysing the ralationshap between temperature and ground stress, laid great emphasis on impact analysis of the volcano and ground stress, which based on the knowledge of elastic mechanics and thermodynamics, then derived the equation of volcano paripheral zone's ground stress.(2)The ground stresses in XinLi mining area were measured by using stress-relief method, then got the regularities of distribution of XinLi mining area's crustal stress-field, and put forward the corresponding safety recommendations.(3)Finite element software ANSYS was applied to build finite element model of XinLi mine. Then, the distribution of mine's stress and displacement under the horizontal force of crustal stresses or without the horizontal force of crustal stresses were calculated and simulated. We got conclusions that crustal stresses play a positive role for the stability of mass, it can also strengthen rock's compressive strength, reduce rock's vertical displacement, moreover, it depressed the maximum shearing stress of mass to some extent.(4)The distributions of seepage velocity and hydraulic head in mining area were calculated and simulated under the horizontal force of crustal stresses or without the horizontal force of crustal stresses. By analysing the simulation results, we got conclusions as follows:under the compression of crustal stress, the tension fissure of mass, room's ceiling, faulted zone and alteration zone of XinLi mining area was depressed. As a result, seepage velocity of rocks was depressed and then, the probality of water inrush in mine was also reduced. Moreover, crustal stresses of mining area enhance rock's mechanical property, make the distribution of stresses in mining even area, so the stability and safety of mine was improved.
