Source apportionment technology is a method which aims to identify the different sources and their contribution to ambient area of particulate matter. Source profiles are the basic data of researches on source apportionment using receptor model. They are also the important parameters of chemical mass balance (CMB) model. In order to obtain reliable results which were consistent with the fact, some problems on the construction of source profiles and the application of CMB model were researched. This thesis introduced the basic theory, solution method and goodness diagnostic technique of CMB model firstly. Then, the sensitivity of CMB model to the source profiles, such as soil dust, road dust, wood burning, agriculture burning, boiler oil, diesel and vehicle exhaust, was investigated in the aspect of fitting ability of source contribution estimates, source apportionment percent and species concentrations. The differences in results using different profiles of the same kind of source were compared as well as the relationship between the correlation of source profiles and the apportionment results. Spearman correlation and clustering were applied to analyse the characters of source profiles for the coal dust, steel dust, construction dust, vehicle exhaust, suspended dust and soil dust of 23 cities in China. Under the sensitivity analysis and the similarity of source profiles, the construction principle of source profiles was given. On the basis of the above analysis, the CMB model was used to the source apportionment of PM10 in Chengdu city using source profiles from Chengdu and other cities. The results validate the practicability of source profile construction method. The basis and criterion for the using of source profiles were provided in this thesis. The conclusions broaden the application of CMB model.
