With rapid development of science and technology and continuous improvement of human life, portable detection devices have attracted more and more attention due to their convenience, low cost and easy operation. Recently people have especially focused on the exploration and application of new materials in such devices. Herein we have studied paper and PDMS as promising materials in portable detection devices. We have developed a convenient semiquantitative method for colorimetric detection of protein with self-calibration integrated on the test strip. Hydrophilic paper was employed as microfluidic device for running colorimetric assay; tree-shaped design was developed to ensure uniform microfluidic flow for multiple branches. The approach was validated with bovine serumalbumin (BSA) colorimetric detection, and colorimetric results observed by naked eyes were consistent with that from apparatus. The device could be coupled with digital transmission of images for remote monitoring system for diagnosis, food control, and environmental analysis. We have also developed a PDMS-gold nanoparticles composite film-based method to detect cTnl (cardiac troponinâ… ) and lysozyme. The composite film serves as a platform to immobilize cTnI antibody and lysozyme aptamer, which could capture cTnI and lysozyme respectively. This process would result in a decrease of catalytic efficiency for silver reduction. Therefore the darkness of spots indicates the concentration of cTnl and lysozyme, analyzed semiquantitatively by image software. This platform could be coupled with digital transmission of images for remote monitoring system in diagnosis, food control, and environmental analysis.
