High pressure torsion is one of the severe plastic deformation methods which has been received extensive attention in recent years. The material grain size of the sample can be refined to nanometer and the bulk material been processed has no residual pore. There will be no great changes of the size of the sample after a huge piece of the stress and strain in HPT. However, the technological parameters of HPT such as the load of the die, the friction coefficient between the sample and dies, and the reverse speed of the lower die make difficulty to the HPT experiments, because of the small size of the sample, the great load of the die and the high friction coefficient. Therefore, to research the influences of the process parameters on the torsion of the sample is very important for the parameter settings of HPT experiments. In this paper, three-dimensional of HPT is created in PRO/E and then imported to the simulation software called Deform-3D. Through the analysis to different HPT models, it can be seen that the closed HPT model can not achieve the nomal high preesure torsion in this research when the semi-closed HPT model can. But maybe it's related to the parameter settings. In this paper, the high pressure torsion deformation process of several typical metallic materials are researched. The Al sample is choosed to be analysed the behavioral characteristics in HPT, include the torque of the sample, the distribution of the strain and stress, the material flow and the number of the turns and so on. Then the significance and correctness of the simulations are verified through existing HPT deformation experimental study. At the same time, the relationship between the number of turns of the sample and the technological parameters in the HPT process are summarized through the simulation results of the typical metal materials such as Al,45 steel,15CrNi6 and Ni in different friction coefficient and load conditions in the HPT process. The influences of these technological parameters to the torsion of typical metal materials in HPT process are researched, which provide theoretical basis and technological parameters setting basis.
