Due to high surface areas, large pore volumes, uniform and tunable pore sizes and well-controlled pore structures, mesoporous materials are widely used. This thesis fouces on the adsorption of organic pollutants in water by mesoporous materials. The thesis is composed of three chapters. The first chapter is a literature review on explaining the water shortage situation.Chapter 2 described highly efficient adsorption of organic pollutants on ordered mesoporous carbon. The adsorption of ten common organics (p-nitroaniline(p-NAN), nitrobenzene (NB), aniline (ANI), phenol (PHE), benzoic acid (BA), amino phenol (m-APH), hydroxybenzoic acid ( p-HBA), catechol (CA), resorcinol (R) and hydroquinone (HQ)) were studied. The adsorption isotherm data of the systems studied were derived at 25℃and fitted to Langmuir equations. Competitive adsorption, which is still not well studied, commonly exists in the natural system. Binary Competitive sorption equilibria were measured by adsorption of two organic compounds systems (phenol - aniline system, nitrobenzene - nitroaniline system). Ordered mesoporous materials calcined at different temperatures show different selectivity. The presence of oxygen surface groups affects the adsorption behavior. Their effect depends on the amount of these groups that are present on the adsorbent surface and on the nature of the adsorbate molecule. Adsorbent, calcined at 500℃, is more selective to aniline adsorption than phenol. When the oxygen surface groups were eliminated by calcining at 900℃, The selectivity of organic matter is much smaller, mainly due to the removal of the surface functional groups. In Chapter 3, mesoporouse carbon loaded on ceramic honeycomb material are used as adsorbents in the adsorption experiments of organics in waste water. Simulation experiments were carried out to Study the adsorption.
