As modern industrial economy development, the usage of city water increase drastically and the emissions of sewage increase corresponding. The question of water shortages and the deterioration of water environment bring the many environmental problems. Membrane bio-Reactor (MBR) has got lot of attention in water areas in recent year. MBR has much more advantages compared with other wastewater treatment processes. But the widespread application of the membrane bioreactor is constrained by membrane fouling, to settle the problem is the main aspect of research in this field. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of powdered activated carbon (PAC) on the influence of MBR performance.The effect of powdered activated carbon on effluent quality and membrane fouling in MBR were investigated through parallel tests. The reactor were fed with synthetic domestic sewage. The purpose of study is for to search for the best amount of PAC at experiment conditions and explore the effect of voted PAC for the sewage treatment and the performance of membrane. At the same time, through the MBR-PAC process for paper waste disposal to study and explore the actual effect of MBR-PAC process for the disposal of intractable paper waste and the direct application in engineering.The results showed that:the best effect of MBR-PAC process for synthetic domestic sewage at HRT is 12 hour, and the best voted dose is 10g. The removal rates of COD, ammonia, total ammonia and total phosphorus were respectively 94.15%, 92.58%,89.98% and 99.43%.The effect of MBR-PAC process for the disposal of paper waste was better than MBR process because of the PAC addition on the whole. Sludge concentration was higher in MBR-PAC process and the amount of remain sludge in MBR-PAC process reduced 88.2% compared with MBR. Activated sludge grew better, Since the growing environment was improved when there was PAC in reactor. PAC could reduce the amount of the membrane effluent, lower the cake resistance at the same time prolong the year of membrane. The effect of MBR-PAC for paper waste is efficient, The removal rates of COD, ammonia and total phosphorus were respectively 90.25%,87.59% and 70.59%.
