With the aluminum-magnesium alloy applications in the automotive manufacturing industry continues to increase, the traditional resistance spot welding (RSW) does not satisfy the connectivity of these low melting point alloy by friction stir welding (FSW)evolved from friction stir spot welding (FSSW) to make up for the lack of resistance spot welding, a new technology of light metal connections.In this paper, reference to an existing friction stir spot welding equipment based on the principle of double-sided friction stir welding, friction stir welding of duplex testing machine to do the overall design of the structure, and the rotating spindle system, Z-axis feed system, motor, rail, screw a detailed calculation, design and selection.Solidworks software in three-dimensional modeling and assembling. Processing is already out of work to meet the test requirements of a double-sided friction stir welding prototype.The 2mm in thickness of Al alloy 6061 was applied by Double-Sided Friction Stir Spot Welding,four factors and four levels of the experiment and single factor experiment were designed,the influence of tool rotation speed,the pin insertion depth and the plunge speed,tool holding time on the fracture surface and mechanical properties of joint was analyzed.The following conclusions are made:(1)The test of four factors and four levels of the experiment results tell us:tool rotation speed is the most improtant factor,which the influence of the shear strength of the joints in the four factors,followed by pin insertion depth,tool holding time,and finally the plunge speed.(2)The optimal process parameters shows us: the tool rotation speed is 2400rpm, the pin insertion depth is 1.6mm,the plunge speed is 0.4mm/s,tool holding time is 7s,the shear strength of the joints were the highest.
