In order to reduce the mass of vehicle and minimize the consumption of fuel,a new thermal spray technology——internal rotating plasma arc spraying technology has been researched and developed,which is used in spraying cylinder bore of engine and replace the traditional method of inlaying cast iron cylinder liner in the cylinder.This paper presents the spraying system is design for spray cylinder bore of aluminium alloy engine which its diameter is above 70mm,and design the assembly parts graph of this equipment and draw by using the Auto CAD and Solid works drawing software.This paper mainly introduces the design process of the equipment,including the design of lifting mechanism,the design of rotating mechanism,the design of gun body structure,the design of the structure of supply for the water,electricity,gas which the spraying needed and the connection between these parts,and also briefly introduce that how the operating principle of the internal rotating plasma arc spraying technology,development prospects and the development trends both at home and abroad.The principle of internal rotating plasma arc spraying technology can be simply described as:the high speed rotating shaft drive plasma spray gun rotating,the water,gas and electricity downward transported to the spray gun through the spindle of rotating device,spindle can rotate and move up and down,and to spray the internal hole 360 degree,deposit a coating of corrosion and resistance on the cylinder wall.In the automotive industry,it was demonstrated that the plasma arc coating could decrease significantly the friction coefficient between piston ring and cylinder liner by 20% to 30%,causing the coefficient of wear resistance to be increased from 3 to 10 depending upon the different coating materials,and the fuel consumption to be reduced by 2% to 4%.This technology enhances the wear resistance and lubrication of internal cylinder surface,extends the service life and efficiency of the engine,and reduced the costs.Develop internal plasma thermal spraying technology which will replace the traditional method of inlaying cast iron cylinder liner in the cylinder has very considerable development prospects.For the wear protection of cylinder bore in aluminum cast material the internal plasma spraying technology offers a new economical solution.The size and the weight of the engine blocks significantly can be decreased in comparison with the traditional cast iron sleeves.Taking account of various factors,it final design out the internal rotating plasma arc spraying equipment which can achieve predetermined spraying function.It provides an available approach for car lightweight.
