Boom Roadheader is mainly used for driftage. As the key component of cutting institutions, cutting reducer plays an important role to transmit motion and power from motor to cutting head. Generally, cutting reducer is designed small in size and wight, big in ratio and strength. Meanwhile, it also has to be stable during work.In this paper, cutting reducer of EBZ-135 type boom roadheader is studied based on Virtual Prototype (VP) technology with ADAMS/UG/NX Nastran software. In contrast with traditional designing method, VP tech--nology is more systematic,visual and swifter. Using VP technology,we can easily do research on kinematics and dynamic characteristics of cutting reducer. Furthermore, we can efficiently study strength, natural frequency and fatigue life of parts, and we donot have to calculate a lot.1. Assembly interference and structural property check. After three dimensional assembly model of cutting reducer was set up in UG, the static interference was checked. Meanwhile, weight and volume of assembly model were measured.2. Kinematics characteristics research of cutting reducer based on VP technology. In ADAMS, Kinematics simulation was established to find out the rotation] speed of some parts. Then the transmission ratio of cutting reducer was verified. 3. Dynamic characteristics study based on VP technology. After dynamic simulations under steady load and two different working conditions were done in ADAMS, the maximum forces value on the first stage planetary gear and the second stage planetary gear shaft were obtained.4. Fatigue life analysis and weight optimization of key parts. With NX Nastran, static analysis and weight optimization of the secondary planetary carrier have been carried on. Besides, modal and fatigue analyses were accomplished on the first stage planetary gear. Fianlly, the planetary carrier was lightened and the fatigue life of planetary gear was checked. Meanwhile, static strength demand of both parts were met.
