Thermosetting epoxy resin posses many desirable properties, such as high tensile strength and modulus, excellent chemical and solvent resistance, high dimensional and thermal stability and good adhesive properties. These characteristics make them ideal candidates for many important applications. Nowadays, with the continuous expansion of epoxy resin applications, epoxy resin that contain meticulous, functionalized and high performance have been extensively studied for decades. An acrylate with two double bonds (EA) having low viscosity was synthesized by the reaction of aliphatic epoxy resin (EP-664) and acrylic acid (AA). Three complexes with IPN were obtained by the physical blending and chemical reaction methods between epoxy resin and poly(methylmethacrylate) using three different curing agents (XCT-802, MeHHPA and 2E4MZ) and Hydrophobic composite particles(WS-12). And the effect of epoxy resin content on mechanical properties of the resulting complexes was also discussed. The effect of different proportions of the amount of composite particles on the Pakistan-hardness of the composites was discussed. And the complex was characterized by SEM, Pakistan-hardness analysis and Mechanical Properties analysis. An acrylate with an epoxy group (AEG) having low viscosity was synthesized by the reaction of aliphatic epoxy resin (EP-664) and acrylic acid (AA). The AEG mixed with the blend of two epoxy resins (E-44 and EP-6002), and then the resulting mixture was cured with MeHHPA when a tertiary amine and 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole (2E4MZ) was respectively used as an accelerating agent. The effect of AGE content on the viscosity of the epoxy resin cured system was studied by viscosity curves, and the mechanical properties of the cured resin containing AGE were also discussed. The viscosity of the epoxy resin system containing AGE decreased to 300-600mPa.s at 25℃, and the mechanical properties of the cured resin first increased with the AGE content to a maximum, and then decreased. The mechanical properties of the cured resin from tertiary amine system were better than that of 2E4MZ system. The cured resin possessed excellent integrated performances when AGE content was equal to 20% by weight in the epoxy resin system.
