Common polyester fibre is a hydrophobic synthetic fibre. The molecular chain is short of hydrophilicity groups, and with high crystallinity degree and close structure. The dye molecules are difficult to penetrate into the fibre under relatively low temperature which makes difficult to dye. Normally, the polyester fibre must be dyed with disperse dyes under the high temperature, high pressure, or using the technology of thermosol dyeing or carrier dyeing. It demands good dyeing equipments and process conditions, with problems of high production cost and high energy consuming. Besides, the production color is monotonous, colour brightness is not enough. So it makes the development of polyester fabric production assortments difficult. To improve the dyeing property of polyester fibre, the researchers tried to increasing the porousness of molecular chain so that the dye molecules can easily infiltrate into. The main methods using in recent years are as follows:(1) copolymerize with the big molecule compound; (2) mixed spinning with the compound possessing plasticizing effect; (3) introducing the groups with ether bonds and others which have good affinity with disperse dyes. The PASTER fibre developed by LianJi Co., Ltd. Shanghai is a new polyester fibre compose with new diol and cationic dyes dyeable groups. The production can dyed under normal temperature and pressure, it has the properties of good colour brightness, soft handle, brilliant anti-pilling property and good spinnability. As a cationic dyeable polyester existing upgraded product, it can replace acrylic fibre, widely used in the development of cotton, wool-type products. Therefore, the research on the properties and dyeing process of PASTER fibre not only can overcome the problems of dyeing ernergy consumption and resource waste, but also can solve the limitaions of blended products, it has important application value and significance.The physical properties of PASTER fibre was first studied in this paper by means of DSC, X-ray diffraction and fibre strength tester respectively. The thermal properties, crystalline properties and mechanical properties of PASTER fibre are systematically explored, and the experimental results obtained are as follows:1. The glass transition temperature(Tg), crystallizing temperature(Tc), melting point(Tm), crystallization peak area and melting heat of PASTER fibre are lower than conventional polyester fibre and common ECDP fibre's. Tg decreased to 70℃, it makes easy to dye, and the crystallinity degree shown by the crystalline peak area also decreased, expand the amorphous region, making the dye molecules have more opportunities to diffuse into the inner of fiber molecules, further reducing dyeing conditions.2. The breaking strength, breaking elongation and crimp elasticity of PASTER are lower than conventional polyester fibre and common ECDP fibre's. It proved that crystallinity degree decreased, the molecular structure becomes loose and soft. Secondly, the analysis on dynamics and thermodynamics performance of PASTER showed that dyeing rate of PASTER began to change very quickly from 90℃, dye-uptake increased range is also large. PASTER fibre reach dyeing balance after boiling dyed at 100℃for over 60min, and with increasing temperature, the half-dyeing time is reduced, indicating that high temperature is good for improve dye-uptake, thus reducing the time required to reach dyeing balance; it is found by linear fitting to adsorption isotherm that adsorption type on the dyes in the PASTER meet Freundlich type, but with increasing temperature, the adsorption type gradually approaching Langmuir adsorption type, which can be seen from the shape of the isotherm. Finally, according to the differences of dyeing properties of two kinds of fibres, found the best conditions on blend dyeing process, obtained satisfactory PASTER/acrylic, PASTER/wool blend fibres union dyeing performance, and we can consider PASTER blend products on large scale.
