This research deeply discussed and optimized the technical conditions in the synthesis of ethylene glycol (EG) by methanol and formaldehyde. By a lot of experiments, di-tertiary-butyl peroxide (DTBP) was chosen as the evocator in the method of synthesis by one-step or multi-steps.The affections of the amount of evocator, reaction temperature and time, mass ratio of methanol to formaldehyde, catalyzer were also discussed.Finally, the way of synthesis was optimized and simplified, the yield was increased. Furthermore the separation process was simulated and optimized by software.Though the reaction distillation process of EG could be got at the bottom of reaction. This research also includes new method on the synthesis of DTBP. Then the goal of recycle, decreasing cost and clear technology are basically realized.The products were analysed by red infrared spectrum and gas spectrum.The optimum one-step synthesis conditions are as follows, using DTBP as evocator, reaction temperature and time are set to 200℃and 4h,the mass ratio of methanol/formaldehyde is 2,the content of DTBP in raw material is 3%.Three towers were used in this process.T1 was reactive distillation column, T2 was used to separate methanol and other composites, and T3 was used to separate ethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.The simulation result of the reactive distillation:T1:the stage number is 14,the feed stage of methanol is 13,the feed stage of formaldehyde and evocator is 9, and the reflux ratio is 0.6;T2:the stage number is 18,the feed stage is 12,and the reflux ratio is 1.6;T2:the stage number is 18,the feed stage is 6, and the reflux ratio is 1.0;...
