Using ultra-high-speed water jet beam (or abrasive water jet) to erode materials, cutting of any complex workpiece can be done on water jet machine with the CNC platform. With advantages of unparalleled flexibility, diversity and environment friendly, water jet machine has enriched the traditional and non-conventional processing category and obtained great prospect in areas including mechanical manufacturing, automobile, armory, aerospace .The namely orifice is transduced in the water jet system to convert the water pressure into kinematic energy of high speed water jet. Unstable water jet beam is induced by pressure fluctuation of the intensifier system and the machining quality could be affected seriously. Based on this phenomenon mathematical model of the intensifier system is built with the help of AMESim and solved using the advanced solver to obtain the characteristics in time domain and frequency domain. The study shows that the pressure stability is mainly related with the accumulator volume, switching frequency of the directional control valve and the orifice diameter. Pressure fluctuation decreases with increasing accumulator volume and switching frequency. Taking consideration of the technical feasibility, when work pressure is 300MPa, the pressure fluctuation is relatively small while accumulator diameter is 80mm, switching frequency is 100Hz and orifice diameter is 0.26mm.The system meet the requirements of precision cutting.As an important component of water jet machine, dynamic characteristics of the cantilever beam has direct impact on the machining precision. Therefor it is essential to analysis the dynamic characteristics of the beam. The three-dimensional geometry model of the water jet machine is built using SolidWorks and modal analysis of the cantilever beam is done with the help of FEA module of SolidWorks Simulation. The vibration frequency and vibration mode of the cantilever beam are obtained. Modal analysis shows that natural frequency of the beam is kept away from the pulse frequency of the intensifier system to satisfy the requirement of precision machining. The results of modal analysis provide theoretical basis for vibration reduction and protection of the water jet machine. Experimental research is also done on performance of the intensifier system to verify the simulation results. It shows that experiments agreed generally with the simulation result.As a kind of advanced mechanical machining facility, the water jet machine can be wildly used to machine the heat sensitive materials for its particular cold machining character.At the same time, the water jet machine have the advantages that other traditional machining methods can not been compared. The results studied in this work have important social and economic meaning. It has wide promising in application.
