The morphological characteristics of fiber materials has a significant effect on the paper properties. Determining the fiber morphology accurately and efficiently plays a positive role in the selection of raw material, appraisal of pulping anpapermaking technology and developing new products . FQA fiber analyzer can accurately test the length frequency distribution of different pulp fiber, and calculate exactly the mathematical average and weighted average fiber length, as well as the tiny fiber content .Advantages of this analyzer are wide application range, fast and accurate mensuration and good reproducibility.Research content of this paper were finding the relationship between the characteristics fiber materials and physical properties of paper by FQA analyzing combined with the measuring methods of fiber characteristics of SEM and optical microscope, establishing the database and summarizing rule, and,then obtainning a clear understanding and preliminary evaluation of fiber properties.Databases of fiber morphological distribution of softwood pulp,hardwood pulp, cotton linter pulp and straw pulp were established respectively by comparing distribution chart of the length and width of softwood pulp,hardwood pulp,cotton linter pulp and straw pulp analyzed by FQA. Fiber kinds of the unknown pulp ang category and grade of new pulp were distinguished according to the databases of fiber morphological distribution, and then their uses were confirmed.These analyzed data and evidence became the reference of production .Dyeing properties and morphology of pulp fibers in different pulping methods were different. The basic kind of raw material and pulping method were distinguished according to the color difference after dyeing and the fiber morphological analyzed by FQA.Consistency of beating mode selection and expected target were confimed rapidly by analyzing variation of fiber length weighed mensurated by FQA and beating technology were confim to further adjust or not. Suitable beating concentration of different pulps should select according to contrast of of difference of fiber morphology between in low concentration beating and in mid-concentration beating analyzed by FQA and the requirements of beating. Analyse and contrast of fiber characteristics of softwood chemical pulp, hardwood chemical pulp and wheat straw chemical pulp in beating refining process were analyzed and contrasted.Fiber length of softwood and hardwood pulp decreased in different beating degrees in the beating process. Beating degree of hardwood pulp were in range of 45~50°SR when beating revolutions of PFI mill was 18,000, and the physical strengths properties of hardwood pulp were better. Average fiber length of hard wood pulp decreased by 21%, fines content was from 55%t to 60%, fiber curl declined more than 50%, kinks per millimeter reduced more than 20% and average fiber width was about 26μm. Beating degree of softwood pulp were in range of 43~49°SR when beating revolutions of PFI mill was 16,000, and the physical strengths properties of softwood pulp were better. Average fiber length of hard wood pulp decreased by 18%, fines content was from 50%t to 55%, fiber curl declined more than 30%, kinks per millimeter reduced more than 18% and average fiber width was about 24μm. While decline of fiber length of wheat straw pulp exceeded 20% and fines content was more than 60%The physical strengths properties of wheat straw paper showed decreasing trend.Fiber curl and kink declined continually in beating process. With the increase of beating degree of pulp, the physical strength of wheat straw pulp presented earlier increase and later decrease trend. When beating degree of wheat straw pulp was 41oSR, average fiber length was 0.5mm, fines content was 50% or so, width was in range from n 22μm to 23μm, and fiber curl and kink decreased approximately 20% and the physical strength properties of wheat straw pulp were best.Pulp species and composition of the mixed pulp of softwood and hardwood pulp were analyzed qualitatively by using optical microscope. FQA was used to analyze quantitatively the mixed pulp.Parameters setting were as follows:, fiber length of hardwood pulp 2.7~2.8mm, coarseness 21~22mg/100m; fiber length of hardwood pulp 0.65~0.75mm, coarseness 7~8mg/ 00m. Application prospect of FQA in this field was discussed simply.
