By means of the kettle of alkali ether and orthogonal experiment, cotton wastes were used as raw material to prepare high viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in this paper. The optimum synthetic conditions were found as follows:the total liquor ratio 1:3, the concentration of sodium hydroxide 30%, concentration of chloroacetic acid ethanol 30%, ethers time 2h, alkalization time 2h, alkalization temperature of 35-40℃, the initial temperature of etherification of 40-45℃and the temperature of later period 70℃. The viscosity of CMC is 932.6 mPa-s.Super absorbent polymer (SAP) was prepared by grafting acrylic acid (AA) onto CMC and copolymerizing, which was cross-linked by N'N-methylene-bis-acrylamide and was initiated by potassium persulfate. The influence of the polymerization temperature, the ratio of AA and CMC, initiator dosage, the dosage of cross-linking agent and neutralization degree of AA monomer on performance of SAP were discussed respectively through single factor experiments. The five factors and three level coding table and orthogonal schedule (L27) were designed to prepare the SAP. The properties of the SAP were evaluated by water adsorption rate and simulated urine adsorption rate. Through statistical analysis, the followings are optimum conditions of preparation:AA, 7.11g/gCMC; cross-linking agent 0.2% of AA; initiator,0.03g/gCMC; the neutralization degree of AA 80%; reaction time,1.5h; polymerization temperature,70℃. The optimal synthetic conditions of artificial urine absorbent resin are listed as follows:AA,8.56g; cross-linking agent 0.476% of AA; content of initiator,0.09g/gCMC; the neutralization degree of AA,71.8%; reaction time,3h; polymerization temperature,70℃.The FTIR analyses show that the SAP is the copolymerizing product Grafting acrylic acid on carboxymethyl cellulose. The grafting copolymers of 80-100 mesh size were selected to evaluate water adsorption rate and simulated urine adsorption rate. The water adsorption rate of the SAP, which made by mentioned above conditions, is 702.5g/g and the max simulated urine absorption ratio is 62.41 g/g, while the water adsorption rate of the cotton waste is 13.81 g/g. The keeping-water properties of the SAP are favorable, the keeping-water rate is still 70% high after 7 days.The SAP are prepared by using cotton wastes in the textile and clothing enterprises, turning waste into treasure economically and environmentally. It provides a new method for the recycling of the textile wastes.
