After many years exploration,it becomes much harder to increase oil production. To keep a steady increase in the output of oil,new technology must be developed constantly to provide technical support for the exploration of reservoir. New development of modern nanometer provides a possible solution for the current problem of drilling fluids technology. Nowadays,the research and application of ultrafine particles technology are in the ascendant. Many valuable achievements are made in the scientific research and applied into the exploration of the oilfield. However ,it remains blank in the field of drilling fluids.Ultrafine particles materials are made up of nanometer order particles whose dimension is between 1 to 100nm. The size of the particle is between transition area of atomic cluster and macroscopic objects ,therefore,nanometer materials have the following characteristics:1. Exterior domino effect. It means it has a very large specific surface and very high surface activity. 2. Small size domino effect. Macroscopic physical characters change which is because the diminishing of the size of particle and notable accretion of the specific surface.How to maintain fluid temperature stability while maintaining the stability of wall formation has been the challenge of drilling fluid technology. The internal factors which affects the stability of drilling fluids are mainly the composition of drilling fluid,especially clay minerals used in the slurry drilling fluid,the solid phase particles are in a colloidal suspension system and scope in drilling fluid its size is small,the volume special effects have a significant influence on the stability of drilling fluids (in particular,the stability of drilling fluids under high temperature performance). This paper proposed the use of advanced particle size analyzer,and other experimental methods,analyze the influence of the ultra-fine particulate material on a variety of drilling fluid systems to facilitate the development of a new type of Nano-treatment agent. In this paper,it is analyzed in two aspects of organic and inorganic Nano-materials, use Nano-materials properties above-mentioned to change the fluid nature of colloidal and suspended body in order to optimize the drilling fluid performance. The Nano-technology introduced into the field of drilling fluid can achieve a leap forward in the development and application of drilling fluid additive. It has an important theoretical and practical application value in deepening the understanding of the mechanism of micro-drilling and resolving the current wall instability of complexity layer and the technical problems of protection of complexity oil and gas formation layer facing in the drilling field.
