Three kinds of complexes were successfully synthesized by the reaction of N/O binate ligand 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (BTZ) and the hydrated chloride CUCl22H2O, NiCl2-6H2O and PdCl2-2H2O. They are binuclear copper complexes [Cu(BTZ)(DMF)Cl]2, six-core nickel oxide cluster [Ni6(μ3-OH)4(BTZ)8(DMF)2]-2DMF and cyclopalladated compound [Pd2(μ2-Cl)2(BTZ)2]-2DMF, respectively. Meanwhile, seven transition metal complexes with BTZ, M(BTZ)2 (M = Mn-Zn, Cd), were prepared. All the complexes were characterized by chemical and elemental analysis, IR, and X-ray diffraction on the compositions and structures.Thermal decomposition behaviors of the complexes were researched by employing TG-DTG technique. The main structure decomposition temperatures of the ten complexes mentioned above are more than 477 K, indicating good thermal stability. Automated data processing RBC-II rotating bomb calorimeter measurement system was applied to determine the constant-volume combustion energies at 298.15 K for the copper complex [Cu(BTZ)(DMF)Cl]2 and the seven transition metal complexes M(BTZ)2. The standard molar enthalpies of combustion and standard molar enthalpies of formation at 298.15 K were calculated. The obtained thermodynamic data are helpful for further study of the complexes and provide a theoretical basis for their future production application.Variable temperature dcmagnetic susceptibility was performed and the result shows that the six-core nickel oxide cluster has strong antiferromagnetic coupling. It is expected to become a new magnetic material. Addtionally, the synthesis mechanism of the cyclopalladated compound was discussed and considered as C-H bond activation palladation. This work can provide a theoretical basis for the further catalysis study of cyclopalladated compound on Heck and Suzuki reactions. BTZ ligand presented a new coordinating mode in cyclopalladated compound, which enriches the coordination chemistry content of organic BTZ ligand.
