Research On The Nickel Plating Of Mesophase Pitch Based Carbon Fibers To Make Radar Absorbing Materials

To make electroless nickel mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers, two technics including electromagnetic mixing and ultrasonic wave were researched in this paper and SEM scanning result indicats that both have succeeded in getting high contents of Ni-P on the surface of carbon fibers, energy spectrum analysis of EDS indicats that the contents of Ni-P alloy can reach to 38.08% and 3.78% on the sueface of carbon fibers in the way of electromagnetic mixing while by way of ultrasonic it can reach to 38.12% and 2.13%, but the later one has great advantage to the former one in consideration of uniformity coefficient of Ni, thickness and continuity, the ultrasonic wave method is appropriate for the preparing of radar absorbing composite materials. The conclusion are drawn from the research of electromagnetic property of electroless nickel carbon fibers that the electromagnetic parameter has decreased while the equivalent permeability increased which is fit for the absorbing in low frequency.After the preparation of resin composite materials out of electroless nickel mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers we gave reaseach to three points including nickel carbon fibers, ply way and the joining of chopped carbon fibers in the resin on the effect of absorbing property, we can also draw conclusions from the reflectivity test that the radar absorbing property of composition has been improved both in high frequency and in low frequency when we make the composite materials out of electroless nickel carbon fibers with all of them paralleled comparing to those lack of electroless nickel carbon fibers or those vertical arrangement; the absorption peak move from the middle to both sides, the property on low frequency increase obviously. The best result due to the composition made by four pieces nickel carbon fibers paralleled, the maximum radar absorption is-27.62dB at 14.88GHz and the total bandwidth of composition is about 14GHz lower than-5dB and 6.5GHz lower than-10dB, so the radar absorbing property is remarkable, the mechanical property also have increased in compared to the former ones.
