Cyanate Resin is a family of organic compounds which have two or even more cyanate groups. Its general formula is N=C-O-Ar-O-C=N. It was developed since 1980s, with sound comprehensive properties. It is white and yellow crystal or auburn sticky liquid under room temperature setting. CE has comparative lower Dielectric Constant (ε:2.5-3.5), lower Dielectric Dissipation (tanδ:3.0×10-3-8.0×10-3), lower moisture absorption (<1.5%) and higher decompose temperature (>400℃).The CE can be dissolved in general organic solvent and has good infiltration properties, adhesive properties, coating properties and rheological properties with reinforcement such as carbon fiber, glass fiber and PA fiber. It can be adapted into several technical methods. The disadvantage of the CE is its weak toughness; it is usually to see a fragile failure on the materials; so, improvement of its toughness is the prerequisite of application; there are several methods of toughening have been developed from the practice. In this dissertation, CE and epoxy (6101) were co-polymerized; mechanical properties, electrical properties, hygrothermal properties, thermal properties and technical were all studied, the results shows that:when the content of epoxy is 30%, the tensile strength increased by 43%, the flexural strength enhanced by 63.6% and the impact strength augment by 60%; the dielectric constant and dielectric dissipation remain in a lower range (between 3.4-3.9 and between 0.0039-0.0041); the modified resin has nice hygrothermal properties, sound thermal properties that its thermal decomposition temperature is above 340℃. According to the study on curing process, higher heating rate related to a higher curing degree; the resin with 30% epoxy has the highest curing degree. To additional, the properties of composites which composed by modified cyanate resin with 30% epoxy and a sort of carbon fiber were also studied; the reaction principles of the modification resin system were also mentioned in a primary level.
