2-naphthol is an important chemical raw material. It plays an important role in preparation of dyes intermediates, rubber chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates, etc.2-sec-butyl naphthalene is the raw material for synthesis of 2-naphthol. It can be produced to a very good 2-naphthol product by oxidation, decomposition, purification and refining. Synthesis of 2-sec-butyl naphthalene by naphthalene and 2-butene over large pore zeolite is a new and potential method. This paper accomplished the research of sec-butylation of naphthalene by 2-butene over large pore zeolite. It included:(1) According to the reaction of naphthalene with tert-butyl to producing 2-sec-butyl naphthalene in the literature, the stardard sample of 2-sec-butyl naphthalene was producted. Then through the physical properties of reactant and product, the gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass combinate analysis method for qualitative and quantitative were found.(2) According to the features of alkylation of naphthalene and alkylated product, choose three kinds of large pore zeolites as catalists. They are USY,P and Mdes_Al. Analysis their pore structure and acid, then investigate the feasibility of sec-butylation of naphthalene by 2-butene over these large pore zeolites. It showed that this three kinds of catalyst were all activity. Specially USY zeolite could be a ideal catalyst of sec-butyl naphthalene for its large pore size and surface area.(3) Modify the USY zeolite which has highest reactivity by alkali metal oxides. Study the different of structure, acid and activity between the original zeolite and modified zeolite. Study the influence of impregnation volume on alkylation reaction.(4) Research of the sec-butylation reaction conditions, study the effect of temperature, reactants ratio and time on reaction results. It is found that as the reaction conditions is 200-220℃,4h, naphthalene:2-butene:hexane (molar ratio)=1:0.2:16, the selectivity of 2-sec-butyl naphthalene could be 75%, modified zeolite could reach to 99%.
