Stabilization of Cu and Cd with desulfuration gypsum was carried out for the contaminated sediments. The kinetic and thermodynamic characteristics of Cu and Cd in the solution by Songhua River's sediment doped pre- and post-desulfurization gypsum were studied. The feature of the stabilization of Cu and Cd in three kinds of contaminated sediments by doping gypsum was also investigated. Finally, the mechanism of heavy metal stabilization was discussed. The results showed that desulfurization gypsum had an important influence on the stabilization of heavy metals in the solution. As the doping proportion of gypsum increased, the maximum adsorption of Songhua River's sediment to heavy metals also increased, and they were positively correlated. Doping of the gypsum couldn't enhance the stabilization capacity of sediment for Cu, but to a certain degree, it could enhance the capacity for Cd.
