Tundish is an important reactor in the steelmaking process. Its function is not only depositing and distributing molten steel, but also purifying molten steel and removing non-metallic inclusions in it. The major metallurgy function of tundish is to adjust molten steel flowage through setting up flow control devices and reach the effect of average steel temperature and promoting the non-metallic inclusions to float. Therefore, lots of scholars adopt numerical calculation method to research the control of molten steel flowage in tundish.Begin with the fact of a steel plant, this paper bases on studying a six-strand bloom continuous casting tundish, according to the technical parameter of locale (inlet diameter: 80mm; outlet diameter: 50mm; bloom section: 280mm×380mm; casting speed: 0.7m/min), by way of simulation software, the simulation of flow field, temperature field, inclusions trajectories and RTD of tundish, which is in scheme of Without, current and optimization flow control device.According to their effects, the conclusions are as follows: Using optimization scheme, the molten steel mixed very enough, dead volume reduced to 6.5%, the speed of molten steel is smaller through dam, which don't easily entraps the slag; the equality of temperature distribution improved, maximum temperature drop is 37℃, maximum temperature difference of outlet reduced to 5℃; inclusion removing rate improved to 71.7%, effect of inclusion removing is very obvious for less than 50μm.From the numerical simulation research, the following conclusions can be drawn. The optimization scheme can change the molten steel flow field in tundish efficiently, prolong the average residence time, improve inclusion removal, temperature homogenization and guide the production of continuous casting.
