| Connecting rod is one of the most important parts in a locomotive engine. Precision forging technology is the development trend of forming technology for small gasoline engine. Multi-way near net shape forging technology of Aluminum alloy is related to various contents, such as material properties, forging heating norms, forming process, tooling technology, forming equipment and lubrication, pre- and post-matching process, which has higher integration of comprehensive technology. It is not only the cutting-edge technology of metal precision shaping field, but also is the the hot topics of international plastic processing technology.In this paper, forging process and production status of the connecting rod at home and abroad are briefly introduced, More details were presented about CAD and CAE simulation work of forging process for a small gasoline engine connecting rod, which were chosen as a typical case.More often complicated shape of the rod body is not axisymmetric but irregular parts whichi is not suitable for closed-die forging. In order to enhance the utilization of materials and reduce forming defects, lots of aspects in the design of connecting rod body of the mold forming process should be mainly considerated when multi-way precision closed die forging was used, such as, the its feasibility, stability, forming quality (full shape, folded, microstructure deficiencies), material utilization, as well as how to reduce load, increase the die service life. In this paper, process analysis and die design for a small gasoline engine connecting rod body based on CAD Platform in the three-dimensional modeling software UG. The purpose of research and development of this project is to achieve mass production of the connecting rod body,. So in the first process high-performance cross wedge rolling billet system was used, then the following pre-forging and forging were both achieved by a multi-use closed-die forging. The three-dimensional modeling of molds in three processes have been are carried out and so are numerical simulation and process analysis by using Deform software. Some conclusions are pointed out about the design of cross wedge rolling mold and also the choice of shape way at the end of forging. The structure of multi-way die forging hydraulic press, as well as mold body map connecting rod for closed die forging precision, was designed.Through the study of the subject, we can provide the key parameters of mold design and forming technology for high-strength aluminum alloy connecting rod forging by using wedge rolling method and improve the overall technological level, utilization and productivity of high-strength aluminum alloy connecting rod forging, and ultimately greatly reduced comprehensive production costs of aluminum alloy connecting rod forging. |
