With the increase of demand on the electrostatic copiers and laser printers,the demand on the toner is growing. Suspension polymerization was used to prepare the toner. Dispersed spheric toner and smaller toner were obtained directly.In this paper,toner were prepared by suspension polymerization using AIBN as initiator agent,iron black as the pigment,styrene and butyl acrylate as reactive monomers. The infect of amount of initiator,reaction temperature, stirring speed,amount of iron black and PVA to toner particle size and distribution were investigated The prime process conditions were as follow. :50ml of styrene, 8ml n-butyl acrylate, oil/water of 1:6, iron oxide black pigment 22g, AIBN initiator 1.0g,dispersing agent PVA of 4g and emulsion agent SDS1.2 g, stirring speed 1000r/min, reaction temperature 80℃.In order to improve the enrichment of iron black on the surface of toner, iron black was modified using Span80 and polystyrene as modification agent and by milling method. Toner prepared using surface treated iron black had smaller average size , narrow size dispersion and smooth surface. The enrichment of iron black on the toner surface was improved.
