PET(polyethylene terephthalate)non-woven fabric is widely used in civil and industries such as textiles,medical treatment and package as well as high technology for their excellent physical and mechanical property,certain biocompatibility and good dielectric property. However,PET are innately hydrophobic and don't adhere well to other materials,so the PET are always modified by low-temperature plasma,electron beam,ultraviolet irradiating etc. to improve the performance and widen the application area.Taking this as a starting point,this paper in line with the green principle,by means of low-temperature plasma induced PET non-woven fabric grafted acrylic acid to improve the wetting property of PET non-woven fabric and give it antibacterial property.The PET non-woven fabric is surface-modified by a modern and green technology called plasma taking oxygen and argon as reaction gas in this paper.Finally,a relatively good parameter include treatment power,pressure,time and reaction gas is obtained.Based on this, plasma-induced graft polymerization of acrylic acid onto PET is carried out which can not only improve wetting property but also the time-effectiveness of wetting property.Then chitosan is attached to grafted non-woven PET fabric which can give it antibacterial property by the reaction between carboxyl on the acrylic acid and amino group on the chitosan.The effect of modification are characterized by wetting time and antibacterial property, combined with scanning electron microscopy(SEM),atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR) analysis.The result showed that the wetting property of PET non-woven fabric improved with the increase of plasma treatment pressure,power and time, then it stops or decreases when the parameter reached a certain degree.Oxygen plasma treating effect is obviously superior to argon,the wetting time is 15.7s which showed the better wetting effect of PET non-woven fabric when oxygen plasma treatment parameters are 30Pa,40W and 2min. The graft ratio of acrylic acid increases with the oxygen plasma treatment pressure,power,time and monomer concentration,it can rise to 2.55% when the plasma and monomer parameters are 30Pa,40W,2min and 40%,then it decreases,the weting time is 5.7s which decreased by 63.7% compared with the wetting time of treated by oxygen plasma only under this condition.The wetting property increases with the graft ratio rises.With this plasma condition,the wetting property of fabric use vapor graft improves with the extension of grafting time,we can achieve better wetting effect when grafting time is 45min and achieve a wetting time 2.6s,it's obviously that the wetting property of PETnon-woven fabric was greatly improved.Based on the parameters of liquid and vapor graft,the grafted PET non-woven fabric was finished with chitosan then test the antibacterial property to Escherichia coli and St aureus, the antibacterial rate are 89% and 97% which showed the better antibacterial property of PET non-woven fabric.We can see the surface of PET non-woven fabric is etched even peel off from the SEM and AFM picture when the plasma treatment is enhanced.The FTIR spectra show there are carboxyl and amino group on the surface.
