With the developing of machine tool and technology , improvement of machine tool is a eternal subject. Because the strongpoints of NC technology , NC system has become the main equipment of mechanism and manufacture. For this reason, the improvement of mechanism in our country is also changed from a traditional industry to a new industry which lead by NC technology.Oil-pipe thread lathe is special lathe used in oil industry. It's mainly used in manufacturing subulate-pipe thread special in oil. As particularity of subulate-pipe thread, X axis and Z axis should work at same time in process. Only in this way ,the needed move track can be processed. The difference between pipe-thread lathe and simple lathe is that there is special subulate equipment in pipe-thread lathe. The digital improve of pipe-thread will wipe off subulate equipment. Using digital system to control AC servo drive unit and AC servo motor, two axises move synchro and get subulate track. Thus matches the need of production. As particularity of oil-pipe thread, in improvement of pipe-thread lathe, the margin in the selection of servo motor and its drive is larger than that in simple lathe.In this dissertation , take NC improvement of oil-pipe thread lathe for example, a whole automation system of NC lathe is designed. The problems in NC improvement, including system movement control periods, transmission servo system ,servo motor, selection and calculation of NC system and design of electrical system, are discussed in detail. Program method, parameter setting of NC system , emulation of servo system and trapeziform-chart program of PLC are also described. A feasible solution of NC improvement is presented in the dissertation. Especially parameter setting of NC system, electrical design of auto-turning knife rest, and trapeziform-chart design of PLC are introduced detailly. The settings of analog interface and all-purpose transducer are introdued. Moreover, the oil-pipe thread NC processure are programed. In order to setting the parameter of AC servo system more effectively, a Matlab emulation of AC servo system is made, and the result of emulation supervises the lathe debugging.After improvement, The lathe is used in workspace and get a good result, it proves that the method is feasible and makes a good economic benefit. lathes of improved get pass all targets of national digital-control criterion.
