Petroleum is a kind of strategic resource. In order to reduce the cost, new petroleum equipment is continually developed by some countries in the world by introducing into new technology. Top Drive Drilling Equipment is one of the three tech-equipments in the twenty-first century. Top Drive is a synthetic facility which is integrated with machinery, electric and hydraulic system and it has come into important collocation of oil well rig and requisite condition to expand domestic and international market of drilling wellOn base of progress, structure type and composition, Top Drive 3D model is created by using three-dimensional software and some problems are researched as follows:The function and the characteristics as well as domestic and international developments of Top Drive are analyzed. The composition and the structure of Top Drive are also analyzed. Taking the three-dimensional software SolidWorks as a platform, Top Drive 3D model is established.Energy saving and emission reduction of Top Drive is very important, the feasibility of being used as drive power and basic structure designation of Variable Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor are discussed.Structural design of Top Drive pipe handler is carried out, and in COSMOS/Motion, multi-body dynamics simulation software, the works of grabbing kinematics and dynamics simulation analysis are analyzed and the results of simulation is used as the boundary conditions of Finite Element Analysis.Finite Element Analysis of static strength is carried out in COSMOS/Works environment. The paper clarifies the stress distribution situation of key components under different operating modes. The result offers theoretical reliance for further improvement and production of Top Drive.The principle and structure of Top Drive balance system is disserted. The paper design balance system and simulate load bias procession by simulation software AMEsim, gains dynamic property of hydraulic system of balance device.As the development history of Top Drive is not long, the research achievement about it is few at time. So the research method that was used in this paper are advanced at present and its research results have important significance and referenced value to further exploitation of other new type of Top Drive and petroleum mechanical products.
