In this paper, the printability, coating structure and the color reproduction after printing of coated paper were studied.After coating on the unified paper with different pigment and different ratio under the same conditions, the properties of coated paper were tested, (including brightness, PPs roughness, gloss and ink absorptivity). It was found that the paper coated with US Hydragloss 9.0 BW had special performances. Maybe, it is because the dispersants that have been mixed in pigments or the treating of hue affected the property of pigment. The properties of PCC and GCC coated paper had no difference.The coating structure with different pigments were examined. Mercury intrusion porosimetry was usded to determine the porosity, pore size and distribution. The results showed that the paper coated with MO1 had smaller particle size and porosity than the paper coated with MO3. The paper coated with US Hydragloss 9.0 BW had the smallest porosity. SEM study showed that there were more calcium carbonate particles on the surface of paper coated with MO1 than the paper coated with MO3. US Hydragloss 9.0 BW retained more on the surface. There are more calcium carbonate on the surface of paper coated with GCC than on the paper coated with PCC.After measuring the printing density of sample that have been printed on IGT Printability instrument, we worked out the hue error, grayscale, colour efficiency and colour strength of three colour ink printed on different paper. The results indicated that all of three colour ink had the best colour reproduction on the paper coated with MO3, and the worst colour reproduction on the paper coated with US Hydragloss 9.0 BW. Two kinds of calcium carbinate had almost the same effect to three kind colour ink. PCC coated paper produced the best the printing tone.Paper coated with US Hydragloss 9.0 BW had the lowest porosity, the worst printability and colour reproduction.
