Recently, many toxic gas leakage accidents happen frequently in the fields of hazardous chemical production industry because of poor awareness, inadequate investment; lack of monitoring measures, and so on. The situation of safety production has already been a necessitous task. Research on the cause of the accident, a truth that can not be ignored is the lack of scientific monitoring and supervision system of the safety monitoring system. Therefore, early prediction of dangerous situation is particularly important.In This paper, chlorine production, storage, using place are taken as the monitoring objects, through the application of modern sensor technology, electronic technology, computer application technology and communication technique, a monitoring system for toxic gas environment was designed. The environmental monitoring system consists of three parts: monitoring terminals, data communications unit and the monitoring center. Monitoring terminal using MSP430F149 single-chip microcomputer to control acquisition of chlorine, temperature, humidity detector signals, and then send to the remote monitoring center through the serial communication interface. Communications between monitoring center and monitoring terminals using wireless module,it can solve difficult wiring problems in complex environment. Environmental monitoring system software using VB6.0 to develop, application MSComm controls set up connection with the serial port, realize transmission and reception of data, these data were written into the Access database through the ADO object.The system be able to monitor of chlorine concentration, temperature, humidity of industrial field, and display these data at PC machine form of numerical. When the environmental parameters achieve to pre-set alarm values, the system can issue timely warnings. This system can also offer historical data inquiry function. If replace detectors and modify a small number of parameters, the system can also be used to monitor other harmful gases. In addition, the application of wireless module achieve low-cost, scalability, and easy to maintain. It also provides convenient conditions to build wireless monitoring network for the future.
