At present, China's coal mines have complex geological conditions, bad working environment, dozens of kilometers' tunnel, scattered operating locations, narrow roadway and face space, and a large amount of explosive dangerous air mixture of carbon monoxide, gas and coal dust in the environment. Then, these lead to that staff in the underground is very difficult to know their own location, and the surrounding environment and facilities. Therefor, there are great potential causes of accidents.A design scheme of coal mine video surveillance and navigation system is introduced in this paper, based on the environmental characteristics of coal mine and the digital mine integrated wireless local area network. The paper also has the realization of coal mine video surveillance system and navigation system simulated on Pocket PC 2003 emulator, and provides a solution for the production and security management of coal mine.At first, the current development of coal mine communication system, video surveillance system and navigation system at home and abroad have been expatiated in the paper. So the theory supports for the design and development of these systems are provided. Secondly, the paper design the network topology and logical structure of digital mine integrated WLAN, and make a comprehensive analysis of the system modules, system technologies and client software.Then, the coal mine video surveillance system is designed and realized in the paper. The paper designs the goals, network topology and logical structure of video surveillance system, discusses the video compression standards and video transmission protocols, and focuses on the development of various functional modules.Again, the paper designs and achieves the navigation system on Pocket PC 2003 emulator. And the paper also designs the goals, logical structure and data organization structure of the navigation system, and focuses on the development of navigation electronic map and various functional modules. Finally, the tests of video surveillance system in the Shangwan coal mine are completed in the paper. And the deployment requirements and WLAN access process of wireless network camera, as well as the details of video data transmission are analyzed.
