The research of carbonaceous aerosol for China has become the focus of international atmosphere chemistry and global change. The North China, which includes the whole Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shanxi areas, the most part of Innermongolia and Shandong provinces, and a part of Henan and Liaoning provinces, is a main area for emission of carbonaceous aerosol. Studying emission conditions of carbonaceous aerosol for the North China, and setting up a new emission inventory has very important value for control of air pollution on the North China. This thesis has investigated a lot of literature, collected emission factors for EC and OC, compared and analyzed them, and try our best to use the emission factors that is fit to our real pollution emission. Based on the latest fuel consumption data from government statistic literature, this thesis calculates the emissions of EC and OC in every city district of the North China from the activities of industry, agriculture and resident life in 2003. According to relevant factors, the city emissions are attributed to the relevant districts and counties. At the same time, this thesis investigates the emissions from the large and medium power station, iron and steel factory, cement factory, chemical fertilization factory, coke refining factory, and so on. Emissions of EC and OC from each factory are calculated according to the relevant production for 2003. By deducing the emissions of these cities from the total of the relevant district and county, the residual are considered as the surface emissions while the factory emissions are taken as the point sources. Finally, the 0.1ox0.1o grid emission inventories of EC and OC of the North China for 2003 are developed.According to the calculation, the total emission of the North China in 2003 are EC: 519.2 kton, and OC: 106.75 kton. For source attribution, Industry, vehicle mobile source and straw burning are the important emission sources. Industry contributes 26.8% for EC and 31.3% for OC, vehicle mobile source contributes 38.3% for EC and 22.6% for OC, straw burning contributes 30.7% for EC and 41.7% for OC, and the rest are from civil source and centralized heating. Of industry coal burning and coke refining have great contributions. The contribution of coal burning is 41.9% for EC and 58.1% for OC, and that of coke refining is 38.3% for EC and 11.4% for OC. Beside, iron and steel, and cement industry are also important emission sources. The total emission of both contributes 18.1% for EC and 24.2% for OC. From the view point of strength in unit area, there are four large areas with high emission. The high emission areas are Beijing and Tianjin area, the south of Hebei and the north of Henan, the middle and southwest of Shandong, the middle and south of Shanxi, there are also several small areas with high emission(Qingdao, Baotou, Panjin areas and so on). These areas have developed industry or agricultural, dense population or a lot of vehicles.
