Four 600 MW supercritical units were put into commercial operation at wushashan power plant in March 2006 to December, which adopted wet limestone gypsum desulfurization process. Since the operation of desulfurization facilities, they were so unstable that they started and stopped from time to time and many defects took place frequently, which was criticized repeatedly by provincial and municipal environmental protection departments. In order to ensure desulfurization equipment could operate stably in long term. The equipment was modified and improved, including gypsum slurry pumps, limestone slurry pumps, dehydration systems, waste water treatment systems, water recycling systems, cyclone and so on. However, with changes in coal market, desulfurization facilities withstood severe tests. Wushashan power plant burned about 0.8% sulfur coal, which was far more than design treatment capacity of desulfurization facilities (0.45% sulfur of design coal). In order to adapt to changes in coal, wushashan power plant has increased the capacity of desulfurization facilities and treatability of desulfurization systems, slurry preparing systems, oxidation systems and waste water systems in accordance with 1% sulfur coal, which ensured long term operation of desulfurization facilities.
